Business Digitalization: Where to Start and What Is Worth Digitalizing?
Business digitalization does not mean replacing every existing system or immediately starting a large IT project.
A better starting point is often one business process that regularly consumes employee time.
Where should you look?
Pay attention to processes where:
- the same information is entered multiple times
- paper and spreadsheets are used to track work
- information is manually transferred between systems
- employees frequently search for documents or information
- work status is checked through calls, emails, or messages
- the same reports are prepared manually
These problems do not always require new software. Sometimes connecting existing systems is enough.
What can be digitalized?
Examples include customer order processing, work orders, approvals, business reporting, internal documentation, and data exchange between ERP, CRM, and other systems.
The existing process should be understood before choosing the technology.
How should you prioritize?
For each process, determine how frequently it occurs, how much time it requires, and how many people are involved.
A process that consumes several employee hours every day will usually deserve more attention than a task performed only a few times per year.
Start with a small, measurable project
Choose one process, document how it works today, and define what should improve.
After implementation, compare the time required, number of manual steps, and errors with the original process.
Digitalization creates value when it solves a specific business problem, not simply because new technology is available.
At MicroCache, we help companies analyse existing processes and determine where digitalization, automation, and system integration can provide practical value.
